About The Academy:

The Western Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (WACLEA) offers its membership an 80-hour Basic Campus Law Enforcement Officer Academy. This year's academy is being held at Saint Martin's University, in Lacey, Washington. The 80-hour academy costs $500.00 for students from WACLEA member institutions and $600.00 for attendees from non-member institutions. Tuition includes all meals, transportation to and from the airport, and planned activities. Training will consist of campus crime prevention, cultural sensitivity, campus security patrol, and many more courses. Please review the syllabus below for detailed training information. Housing information and other practical considerations can be found following the syllabus. Please complete the Basic Academy Registration form and return it as soon as possible.

Housing:

Attendees have the option of choosing from 3 housing options:

1. Accommodations are available at Saint Martin's University's Lambert Lodge located on the Puget Sound in Olympia, Washington at no cost. Transportation will be provided to and from the airport and to and from the academy each day at no cost (for those staying at Lambert Lodge). Accommodations are limited and will be filled on a first come-first serve basis.

2. Campus resident hall rooms at Saint Martin's University are available for $45 per night for single and $38 per night per person for double occupancy. Accommodations are limited.

3. Attendees may make arrangements for their own accommodations while attending the academy. Those choosing this option are responsible for their own transportation.

Meals:

There is a campus café operated by Sodexho Food Services located on campus. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the campus café are included in the tuition. Student's are encouraged to eat meals as a group.

Travel and Directions:

Travel to the academy location is the responsibility of the student and/or sponsoring agency; however Saint Martin's University will provide transportation to and from the airport for those staying at Lambert Lodge or on campus. Driving directions to Saint Martin's University are available on their website.

Smoking:

At Saint Martin's University smoking is prohibited inside any building and within 50 feet of any building entrance.

Attire & Equipment:

Attire is casual business dress. Attendees will receive a WACLEA academy shirt (please circle your size on the application form). No attendee equipment is required or needed at the academy.

Attendance:

Attendance is critical to the successful completion of the courses taught in the academy. Attendees are expected to communicate with their work place supervisor if they are un-able to make a training day. The agency supervisor sponsoring the attendee will advise the WACLEA training program coordinator.

Examination:

A pass - fail exam will be administered at the last day of the academy. Instructors will provide test questions to the training coordinator and review sessions will occur during the course of the training.

Graduation:

During the Graduation ceremony Officers will receive a Graduation Diploma, a WACLEA Logo Shirt, and a Class Photo.

Conduct:

All attendees are expected to represent themselves, the agency they represent, and campus law enforcement community in a professional manner at all times.

Responsibility for Injuries:

It must be understood WACLEA and Saint Martin's University assume no responsibility for injuries or illness suffered as a result of attending and receiving training at the WACLEA academy. WACLEA and Saint Martin's University will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any personal property as a result of fire, theft, or other causes. It is understood that WACLEA academy attendees participates in this training at his/her own risk.

Emergency Contact Numbers:

Attendees should advise their families and sponsoring agency how to reach them in the event of an emergency. Attendees can advise all need to know persons that an emergency message can be delivered to the attendee by
contacting the Saint Martin's University Office of Campus Safety and Security at (360)438-4555. The caller will need to advise the dispatcher of the name of the attendee, the caller's full name, and a call back telephone number. Every attempt will be made to deliver the message as soon as possible.
