Old Business
There will be a WACLEA Academy in August. Details will be worked out soon and it will be held at Seattle University under the watchful eye of Mike Sletten.
The survey on Regional Training that appeared in the Hot Sheet was to be returned to President Tom Charbonneau. The status of these returns is currently unknown. If you have not sent in your feedback please do so ASAP.
New Business
Board members discussed fall conferences as a general topic and decided that having two conferences a year was the best use of WACLEA funds and talents. Discussion regarding topics produced the following:
Alcohol on campus
Sexual assault
Several nationally recognized speakers were mentioned as possibilities for us to contract with in this regard.
Tom McGill offered to host the fall conference in Spokane, Washington. Tom will work with Allan Laird to set up the conference and obtain the speakers. They will report progress at the summer board meeting. Registration is likely to be on-line, with a mail-in option.
This should be another great opportunity to partner with Student Services and Student Life/Housing. Student Health should also be interested/encouraged to participate.
Board members discussed the health of the organization, which is fine, but could use more members. Each board member pledged to select five non-member institutions in their local to contact and encourage to join WACLEA and participate in the training and fun.
The Publications Committee will be working on a new and updated Directory. This will be produced in the near future. A directory of all schools in the WACLEA region has been suggested to replace the old one that has become obsolete due to turnover. The board is considering the formation of an ad hoc committee to take on this task. It is too much for one or two people to tackle. The ad hoc committee would also look into a full-scale redesign.
Steve Rittereiser gave the IACLEA update. Among other things IACLEA is offering Trial Membership for one year to non-members that have never been members of the organization. This is their way of highlighting the benefits of membership. This Trial Membership is available through August of 2003. President Tom Charbonneau has the details.
Treasurer Walter Hudsick suggested marketing tools to help increase membership. There was discussion and the idea was well received. Walter will do some research on the possibilities and report to the board at the summer meeting.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 1810.
