WACLEA Board Meeting Minutes
April 9, 2008

Meeting called to order by WACLEA President Steve Hansen at 3:43 p.m.
The board reviewed the minutes from the Fall Conference board meeting. Pat pointed out some corrections that needed
to be made. Mike make a motion to approve the minutes as amended. Bob seconded
it. The motion was carried.
Financial
Report
Steve gave the financial report in Treasurer Marsha Strill's absence. As
of March 31 the organization had a balance of $15,806.28 (including a $250
donation to Security on Campus). After a deposit on April 3 of $4240 the
organization had a balance of $20,046.28. Some of that includes tuition
for Basic Academy.
Mike moved to accept the Financial Report. Jeri seconded it. The motion was carried.
Conferences and Board Meetings
General Conference Update
Allan
Laird talked about an offer extended to WACLEA to participate in a joint
conference with the California Association of Law Enforcement Administrators
(CALEA). There was some discussion about this and it was decided that it
would be brought up during the General meeting at the end of the conference.
Summer 2008 Board Retreat
There
was some discussion about holding the Summer board meeting on August 16
following the Academy Graduation August 15. Mike Dressel motioned to move
the Summer Board meeting to August 16 at Saint Martin's Guest House so that
board members may attend the graduation ceremony. Bob 2nd. The motion was
passed.
Fall 2008 Conference
The Request for Proposal (RFP) for Fall Conference is now on the website.
Steve said he would discuss it further at the General Membership Meeting.
Jo Ann said she would send it out to the list serve.
Membership
There was some discussion about the geographical basis of our membership
and the fact that we have no members from Alaska or Montana and only a couple
from British Columbia.. It was agreed that the organization needs to address
this further by developing an outreach committee. Pat, Mike, and Jo Ann
volunteered to serve on the comittee. Steve stated he will address this
further at the General Membership Meeting.
There was some discussion about membership gains. We currently have 97
members.
Training
Regional Training Update
Mike Dressel discussed the campus ICS training
that will be held in Willamett in May. There was some discussion about colleges
and universities being NIMS compliant..
Academy
There was some discussion about the Basic Academy that will be held at
Saint Martin's University August 4 - 15. Allan reviewed the agenda with
the Board. So far there have been 28 individuals signed up for the Academy.
We are still waiting on a few applications to come in from individuals who
have said they are going to attend.
Strategic
Plan
Brochures
There was some discussion about brochures. Allan suggested we hire a student
to make brochures for the organization. Pat volunteered to look into this.
Mike Dressel moved that Pat look into having someone make Basic Academy
and WACLEA brochures and report back to the Board via e-mail. Bob 2nd. Motion
was passed.

No other business. Steve moved to adjourn.

General Membership Meeting Minutes
April 11, 2008

Meeting called to order by WACLEA President Steve Hansen at 10:15 a.m.
Steve Hansen talked about the Spring Conference. He said overall it went
very well.
Academy
Allan
Laird and Pat Sturgill talked about the upcoming Basic Academy informing
the general members that it will be held at Saint Martin's University August
4 - 15 with the Board Retreat held August 16, 2008. They invited all members
to attend the Board Retreat.
WACLEA Shirts
Pat suggested we take WACLEA shirts and make them available to the
General Membership and Basic Academy attendees for purchase.
Membership Outreach Committee
Mike Dressel talked about the newly established Outreach Committee
and the need to evaluate membership in Alaska, Montana, and B.C.
Request for Proposals to Host Fall
Conference
Proposal requests to host the upcoming fall conference were discussed.
Jo Ann said she would send it out on the list serve.
Brochures
There was some discussion about the need for WACLEA and Basic Academy
Boards. Pat informed the general membership that he would be looking into
getting this done.
Spring Joint Conference
Steve discussed the possibility of having a joint conference in Reno
next spring. Steve said that after further discussion with members at the
conference it was decided that it wouldn't be in the interest of the general
membership.
Fall Conference
Fall Conference will be held October 8 - 10, 2008. The deadline for the
RFP will be June 30, 2008.
