North Carolina General Statutes 116‑40.5. Campus law enforcement agencies. - Allows the Board of trustees for one of the constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina or teaching hospital to create a campus law enforcement agency - those officers hold certification through North Carolina's Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and must comply with Chapter 17C (North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission) of their statutes and 12 NCAC 09A (Criminal Justice and Education and Training Standards Commisson) of the adminstrative code.

Washington RCW 28B - These laws directly address public higher education. There is a difference between the universities and colleges. The delineation currently is used as universities are four year institutions and colleges are community and technical colleges.
